Care guide

Thank you for bringing a little piece of White Oak Studio into your home!

Each piece is wheel-thrown or hand-built by me in my little studio here in the Chilterns, then individually carved, glazed and fired to a stoneware temperature so it's strong, durable, and made to be used and loved. As it's handmade, you might notice small variations in shape, glaze or texture from piece to piece. That's not a flaw, it's just part of what makes it one of a kind.

As you have bought a slowly handmade item, here are some care guidelines to help keep your piece in tip-top condition.

Washing, use and handling

To take the best care of your new handmade ceramics, I'd suggest gently handwashing as this reduces the likelihood of any damage or bumping in a dishwasher and avoids frequent harsh chemicals, but the pieces are safe to be cleaned in the dishwasher if you prefer. For carved or textured pieces, a soft damp cloth is best for everyday cleaning, getting into all those lovely little grooves.

If you choose to wash items in the dishwasher or use them in the microwave, take care to avoid sudden temperature changes by moving your piece straight from cold to hot (or vice versa), as rapid changes in temperature can cause cracking.

It probably goes without saying but please handle your pieces with care. Stoneware ceramics are strong, but not indestructible. A knock on a hard surface can chip a rim or an edge, so a little care in the kitchen or on the shelf goes a long way.
